During my fabulous five day visit with Uncle Bruce and Aunt Priscilla I snapped more than 500 photos of the awesome sites we saw. Instead of posting one enormous entry of all the fun we packed in over the 5 days, I'm going to break my California adventures down to several posts. Here goes with our first adventure.
On my first full day we headed to the La Brea Tar Pits. It's the site of the worlds only ongoing urban Ice Age excavations. The museum holds more than 1 million Ice Age fossils from more than 650 different species of animals who quite literally found themselves stuck in the tar pits. Oh, and by the way, the remains of one early human was found there years ago as well.
Inside this museum we were able to view a lake that continues to bubble with asphalt and methane, two active excavation sites, paleontologists at work, and fossils found on that very site. This first photo are actual bones and animal body parts preserved in tar.
A Paleontologist hard at work.

Every now and then a new "Baby Tar Pit" (as our Tour Guide called it) pops up on the grounds of the Tar Pits. This one was in a grassy area. I'm pretty sure I could have escaped from it had I stepped in it, but just to be safe I kept my distance (I don't want to be part of the display at the museum).
Here's a sneak peek at what's up for next time. We took a narrated bus tour of celebrity homes and famous sites in the area. Although we didn't come face to face with any A-Listers, we got to see their houses (or in some cases, the front gate that closes their mansion off to ordinary folks like us)!
