Another Tournament Filled Weekend

This weekend Buddy played in a baseball tournament in Inver Grove and Careline played in a soccer tournament in Apple Valley.  I particularly like this pic of Braden up to bat because Pat, the first base coach, is standing his post awaiting Buddy's arrival.  

 

Saturday mornings game was early which meant we all needed to be up and out the door before most of us are normally even out of bed for the day.  Obviously Careline wasn't quite awake (and the rest of us weren't paying too much attention either) as she figured out at halftime that she was wearing her soccer shorts backwards.  Hey it worked...she scored moments later.

Careline's Last Day Of Elementary School

Today marks the end of the road for Careline's days as an elementary student.  It seems like just yesterday she was walking through these doors for the first time and then just like that she'll exit them today for the last time. The reality of growing up has also hit her as she commented to me on Monday that she only had 2 days of recess left ever. 

Back Again This Summer

Our little Tree Frog friend is living on our deck again this Summer.  I think he resembles a dinosaur.  This Robin is also always nearby, as she made a nest under our deck and is awaiting the arrival of her babies.

1st Game - 1st Hat Trick

Adeline and her Green Frog teammates played a great first game of the season last night.  She's so happy to be back in a soccer uniform and it showed as she scored 3 goals in this first game.  Here she is happy and proud after her second goal.

Elementary School Awards Day

This morning I headed over to the school gym to  be in attendance as students were recognized for their participation in clubs, events, and track and field during this school year.  Here is Careline accepting her award for participating in Lego League.  She was also given certificates for being involved in band and Green Warriors (a recycling club). 

 



Her proudest moment came when she learned that she placed 1st of all 5th grade girls in the entire SSP school district with her 10 foot 10 inch long jump.  Yeah Careline!

Buddy also earned certificates for his participation in Student Council and Green Warriors.

Runners Up

Careline and her teammates came up just short of being champions in the River Cup Soccer Tournament when they lost by the score of 2 to 1 to St Croix.  SSP's lone goal was made by Careline on a penalty kick after she was leveled inside the box.  The girls should be very proud of their performance over the weekend.  They had 2 shutout victories, one lopsided win, and only had 3 goals scored against them over the entire weekend.

Tourney Time

Today was one busy day for the McLaughlin's.  Buddy played 3 games of baseball in a tournament in Woodbury and Careline played 2 games of soccer in a tournament in Hudson, WI.  I was only able to catch 1 of Braden's 3 games but oh what a game it was.  His team was behind the entire game until they went ahead by 1 run on their last turn at the plate.  Buddy came out to pitch the final inning and he and his teammates didn't allow a single man to even reach first base and the victory belonged to SSP.     

 

Careline and her teammates went 2 and 0 today.  They play again tomorrow morning and quite likely will play for the championship tomorrow afternoon.

Addy was just along for the ride today, but her soccer season started last week too.  She has a couple more practices and then it's time for her season to begin.

Track and Field Day

All the 5th and 6th graders in SSP gathered together today to compete in a track and field day.  I was able to take some time out of my work day to go cheer Careline on in 3 of the 5 events she competed in. 

 

She did super well in 100 meter hurdle race and easily won her heat. 

 

Although she exercised good form when attempting the high jump, height is not on her side and she wasn't able to clear the bar. 

Spring Band Concert

Our percussionist and her fellow band members treated us to the Spring concert in the school gymnasium on Thursday night.  I was quite impressed with how far they have come this year, their first year of playing an instrument.

And The Busy Summer Of Sporting Events Begins

Careline and her SSP teammates got the season off to a great start tonight by defeating the St Paul Blackhawks by the score of 4 to 1.  Careline got 1 goal and 2 assists.

Once again this Spring Adeline made a home-made bird food ring at school out of cheerios.  Last night she chose to attach it to The Jerry Tree.
