Buddy's New Shirt

Both Pat and I agreed that the tour of Alcatraz Island was our favorite part of our recent trip.  Here's Buddy modeling the new shirt we brought home for him.  Believe it or not, there actually is an annual Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon held in San Francisco.  The race includes a swim in the bitter cold  55 degree waters surrounding Alcatraz, a bike ride through the hilly city, and a running race that includes a climb up 400 steps on a cliff ladder.  Wowsa!

Our Last Day In San Fran

On the last day of our vacation we paid a visit to Ghirardelli, walked up and down Lombard Street (can you see the cars zig zagging their way down the crookedest street in the world?), and took in the last gorgeous views of this city.

Later this week, after I have a chance to go through some of the 1, 247 photos I took while on vacation, I'm going to post one final San Francisco entry of some of my favorite photos of our trip.

Giants Ballpark Tour & Game

Yesterday was another fun filled day in the Bay Area for the hubby and myself.  Our day started with a tour of AT & T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants.  We enjoy taking ballpark tours when we're vacationing as you get to go to many areas inside of the ballpark that are normally off limits.

Our TWINS have a gorgeous stadium back home, but the Giants have a mighty pretty place to play at as well.

Giants fans hold Willie Mays near and dear to their hearts.  Throughout the facility there are tributes to him, including the 24 palm trees planted outside the main entrance to the facility (he was #24).

Here's Pat and I sitting in the visitors dugout.

The view from our seats.  The Giants beat the Padres 7 to 2.

Whenever a Giant hit a home run water shot out of the columns.  Several dingers were hit last night.

Spectators arrive to the ballpark using many modes of transportation, including ferry boats.

Isn't technology great?!  We were able to face-time with the kids while at the ballpark so they could see where Mommy and Daddy were.

Between the tour and the game we did some more sightseeing in this fabulous town.  This is Chinatown.

And here's the church where Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe had their wedding photos taken

As I type this, we're sitting in the airport waiting to board our flight home.  We had a wonderful trip.  Over the 5 days we were here we put 55 miles on foot, ate some terrific local foods, saw some amazing sights, and just plain had fun.  I'll post one last entry tomorrow with photos from today of our visit to Lombard Street, the crookedest and one of the steepest streets in America.

Napa Valley

Yesterday, Pat and I took a tour of Napa Valley Wine Country.  Although we are happy that we experienced it...our preconceived notions about wine remain the same.  I believe wine is for church and Pat, well I think we all know that he'd prefer to be chugging down a Coors Light instead of swirling, sniffing, and sipping on a glass of wine.

A Fun Filled Day In San Fran

Day 2 of our vacation was packed with fun and exciting things.  I didn't think we would walk further than we did on day 1, but by golly we did when we put on more than 14 miles!

We started the day off with a tour of Alcatraz.  That was awesome.  The audio  tour directed by prison guards and former inmates was interesting and informative.

In the afternoon we were in attendance as America defeated New Zealand to win the America's Cup racing championship.

The photo of the outdoor restaurant with the blue awning is my favorite place to eat.  It's located on Pier 39.  They serve the most fabulous Salad Louie topped with fresh shrimp and crab.  Nummy!

We also took a cable car ride (a must for any visitor to San Francisco).

Today we are off to Napa Valley for the day.  Neither of us are wine drinkers...but there should be plenty of beautiful photo opportunities.

Golden Gate Bridge

Day 1 in San Francisco was FABULOUS!!!  We toured the town for 11.25 miles on foot and took in a lot of what San Francisco has to offer.  We're headed off to Alcatraz first thing this morning.

Heading South

This afternoon the kids were fascinated by the flock of white pelicans that flew overhead as part of their migration south.
